(5 Aug 2019) Hundreds of protesters from Pakistan's Jamaat-e-Islami party gathered in Karachi on Monday to protest against India's decision to change the status of Kashmir.
The party chief in Karachi, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, told supporters: "Kashmiri Muslims have sacrificed their lives and it's our responsibility to stand by them."
He called on the United States to mediate in the crisis.
It was one of several protests held in Pakistan following the move by India's Hindu nationalist-led government to revoke the special status of Muslim-majority Kashmir.
The decision would eliminate Kashmir's right to autonomy on all matters except defence, communications and foreign affairs.
It would also allow Indians from outside the region to permanently settle, buy land, and hold local government jobs.
Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and both claim the region in its entirety
