Syria’s refugees are headline news. By July 2015, more than a fifth of Syria’s pre-2011 population had fled the conflict, seeking refugee status in neighbouring countries and further afield. The UK is the second largest bilateral donor to the Syrian Refugee Crisis.
In September, the Prime Minister announced that the UK will take up to 20,000 Syrian refugees over the rest of this Parliament using the established UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) process for identifying and resettling those in gravest need. In particular, he prioritised vulnerable children.
This inquiry, by the International Development Committee, examines the Government's response to the Syrian refugee crisis.
