The Seto Inland Sea, A Marginal Coastal Sea Of The Pacific Ocean, Situated In Western Japan. Covering Roughly 23,000 Square Kilometers In Total Surface Area, The Seto Inland Sea Separates The Island Of Honshu, Shikoku, And Kyushu, Three Of The Four Main Islands Of Japan, And Serves As A Crucial Transportation Route For The Coastal Areas Surrounding It.
The Seto Inland Sea Stretches Approximately 415 Kilometers From East To West And Its Width Varies From 7 To 65 Km. The Kanmon Strait, That Separates Honshu And Kyushu, Connect The Inland Sea With The Sea Of Japan, While The Kii Channel And The Bungo Channel Connects It To The Philippine Sea. The Seto Inland Sea Is A Relatively Shallow Sea. The Average Depth Is 38 Meters (125 Ft) And Its Greatest Depth Is 105 Meters (344 Ft). The Total Water Volume Of The Lake Is Approximately 610 Cubic Kilometers.
The Coastal Regions Surrounding The Seto Inland Sea Are Densely Populated And Industrialized. The Sea Surrounds 11 Prefecture Of Japan, And Major Cities Like Osaka, Hiroshima, Okayama, Takamatsu, Fukuyama and Kobe Are Situated On The Coast Of Seto Inland Sea .
The Sea Contains About 3,000 Islands, Ranging From Large, Inhabited Islands To Small, Uninhabited Islets. Some Of The Larger Islands Include Awaji Island, Shodoshima, And Itsukushima (Miyajima).
The Sea Is Renowned For Its Serene Beauty And Cultural Significance In Japan. The Setonaikai National Park, The Largest National Park Of Japan Is Situated Within The Seto Inland Sea. The Park Consists Of Protected Islands Between Honshu, Shikoku And Kyushu. Covering Over 660 Square Kilometers Of Land And 9,000 Square Kilometers Of Sea In 11 Prefectures, It Includes Over 600 Islands And Coastal Segments And Encompasses Numerous Bays, Beautiful Beaches, Fishing Villages, And Sandy Coast Line.
