Immigration News in Spain
Today, I will talk about significant changes in Spain’s immigration policy that may come into effect very soon. You can expect both positive news and some important nuances.
Key Changes:
Student Visas: From now on, student visas will only be issued for higher education programs, and their validity will cover the entire duration of the studies. However, for language and vocational courses, applicants will need to apply through the consulate.
Residence Permit with Work Rights: Students who have been in Spain for more than a year will be able to immediately switch their status to a residence permit with work rights for 4 years. This is an important step toward improving access for international students to the labor market.
Automatic Visa Approval: If you do not receive a response to your visa application within a month, it will be automatically approved. This change is expected to significantly speed up the processing of permits.
Family Reunification: Relatives of Spanish citizens will be able to apply for residence and work permits without being dependent on the “dependent” status. The age limit for children eligible for reunification has been raised to 26 years.
Accelerated Path to Permanent Residency: Foreigners will be able to apply for permanent residency after just two years of stay in Spain, rather than the three years previously required.
Work Visas: The validity of job search visas has been extended from 3 months to 1 year, giving more chances for employment in Spain.
In October 2024, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the acceleration of migrant legalization in Spain. This open immigration policy is aimed at supporting the country’s sustainable development. Unlike many other EU countries, Spain maintains a humanitarian approach and seeks to support those already on its territory.
These changes make Spain one of the most attractive countries for migrants in Europe, especially for students and professionals. I will discuss all these updates, their pros and cons, in a video, so be sure to watch and subscribe to stay updated on important news!
