Landing in Athens, you’ll realize: you’re nowhere near the city.
You can take a taxi, or you can take the train system, the Metro, into the heart of Athens.
While collecting your luggage, you’ll see the train and bus schedule on monitors.
Follow the blue signs to the exit, across a pedestrian bridge to the Metro hub.
At one of the ticket kiosks, change the language to English, and choose the “Athens and Airport” button. Train tickets are 9 Euros each way to and from the Athens Airport.
Use the tickets to open the gates, and then hold on to them. You'll need them to leave the train station in Athens.
At the airport train station, it's easy to find the platform heading into Athens. The trains only arrive every 30 to 40 minutes, so expect a crowd.
Most tourists will likely get off at the Monastiraki stop.
The entire ride is around 55 minutes, which is slightly longer than a taxi.
