Today we take a look at my favorite orchid, the Burrageara (Oncidopsis) Nelly Isler. I managed to found both the red and orange variety, so this is a dream come true!

It's no secret that I love this orchid and I've had quite a few of them in the past. The bad thing is this orchid is not easy to grow, nor hardy, but that makes it all the more desired!
The Nelly Isler is famous for its intense red (non purple) flowers that smell like lemon fruit (to some at least). There is also an orange variety that seems to be more rare in the shops and I agree, it's just now that I manage to find it.
This orchid is a Miltoniopsis hybrid and that gives us some idea of its demands. It is a cool to intermediate grower, hates to be dry and have dry air around it. If sick it takes pretty much a miracle to recover and if it does it's not fast.
In the past I had success with this orchid only when I offered good temperatures and humidity, the moment I ignored it (well I had to leave home for 2 months) it just melted away. So this is a high maintenance orchid that will NOT appreciate you ignoring it.
