Nicolae Bretan (1887-1968) was a Romanian opera composer, baritone, conductor and theatre director. He wrote 5 operas and more than 300 Lieder in three languages: Romanian, Hungarian and German. After the WWII, the Romanian regime of Ceauşescu had treated the composer unjustly, declaring him a non-person. Only since the 1980s the works of Nicolae Bretan have become known. Bretan's heritage is exclusively recorded by Nimbus Records, and the CDs are available at Amazon.com.
