After more than five decades of service, the Royal Air Force's C-130 Hercules era is soon to come to a close. A 3-ship of the five remaining C-130J's performed a 'farewell flight' over all four nations of the United Kingdom. The flight featured waypoints including various RAF bases that the old C-130K & later J variants used to operate from. It also featured low-level flypasts through the Lake District, the Scottish highlands and the Mach Loop in Wales.
Following His Majesty The King's Official Birthday flypast on Saturday, the type will officially be retired. One by one, the remaining five will make their way to Cambridge Airport where their fate will be decided.
This footage was taken from the Mach Loop in North Wales. It was the most magnificent sight seeing three of these giants fly though the valley beneath us. They will be sorely missed.
