Biobased products -- everyday items such as clothing, cosmetics, food items, storage containers, oils and waxes that are made from renewable resources instead of oil -- are displayed in a model house at the 2010 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in Washington, DC. Many foods -- juices, bread, oils -- are now made more efficiently with enzymes. Cosmetics and detergents no longer contain petroleum products or phosphates. Everything from clothing to car tires can be made with renewable chemicals instead of fossil fuels.
