Learn how to grow the best daffodil displays at home with handy tips and advice from a National Trust gardener. Discover how to grow bigger, brighter flowers every year and how to stop squirrels stealing your bulbs.
Daffodils are a sure sign of spring with their cheerful yellow flowers often seen at the roadside and in hedgerows, parks and gardens. They’re easy to grow at home and can be planted in containers, borders or lawns to brighten up your green space early in the year.
However, it’s important to think ahead if you’re wanting to add daffodils to your garden, patio or balcony. You’ll need to plant your daffodil bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November. This means that the bulbs will have time to grow roots during the colder months, before flowering in spring. They last for a long time and are a low-maintenance plant to grow.
We look after many wild and cultivated daffodils at the gardens in our care, so our gardening teams have plenty of experience in creating the best displays. If you haven’t got daffodils growing at home, you can spot them in spring at gardens and parks near you: [ Ссылка ]
If you’d like to plant your own daffodils, we’ve worked exclusively with Blue Diamond to create a collection of different daffodil bulbs inspired by the places in our care. You’ll be able to shop the collection at Blue Diamond’s garden centres from September 2024: [ Ссылка ]
