6.4 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HITS CROATIA
At 12:20 pm local time (6:20 am ET), Croatia in Europe hit by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake. Its epicenter was 27 miles (44 km) south-southeast of the capital Zagreb. The expected MMI is up to IX in some areas close to the epicenter.
Widespread severe damage is observed in these areas especially the towns of Petrinja and Sisak. Minor damage is expected in Austria and Western Bosnia. The U.S. Geological Survey informed liquefaction warnings in some areas. So far six aftershocks (up to M4.4) were observed. This earthquake had pre shocks yesterday with magnitudes 5.0 and 5.2.
