Drone footage of a great white shark and humpback whales at the Kermadec Islands, NZ's northern most territory.
It was just announced that the Kermadec region will become one of the world's largest Marine Sanctuary's in 2016. The sanctuary will be about 2 times the size of NZ's land mass.
We expected to see lots of humpback whales on their migration south to their feeding grounds in Antarctica on this scientific expedition - we didn't expect to bump into any great white sharks! One of the GWS's has been positively identified as a shark that was tagged in 2011 at Stewart Island (about 2500km south).
