The 2019 Bryce Canyon 50K Ultra Trail Run
I was so disappointed I could not run the 60K in 2020 that I made a vid of what I had of the 2019 50K.
Flew into Vegas on Friday, drove the rental to race site, then found a campsite in the Red Rock Canyon Area with a view of the pretty rocks Set up the hammock from a tree to the car. Fell asleep watching the stars. Woke in the morning to frost covering the outside of the sleeping bag.
The race starts off with a little climb up a gravel road. It lets the fast ones get out ahead of the crowd and me to get behind the crowd. Then onto the trails. Mostly nice undulating trails for a few miles. A nice downhill heading into the first aid station. The half marathon runners were catching up so I ran a little faster trying to keep up with traffic. The trails are wonderful for running. More undulating hills and a nice long climb then downhill heading into the aid at Red Rocks. The loop through the red rocks canyon is tough. Plenty of climbing for the legs. On the way back a nice little climb out and then the 60K people join the trail. They have gone farther but have less vertical in their legs. They are about the same speed as me through the next aid station. Heading back on the undulating hills and then one nice long climb before hitting the road. A lung buster if you don't live at altitude. I saw a nice older lady just strolling up the hill without a problem as most of us were huffing and puffing. After the climb a gentle decent to the finish.
A really nice race. The scenery was great along with the trails. A nice selection of food etc at the aid stations. They know what we need.
I had some time Sunday morning for a hike to Calf Creek Falls before it started raining. Then back to Vegas for the flight home. At work Monday morning. A weekend getaway to Utah and only used 1 day of vacation.
