based on a session of Villarreal FC to work on the positional play, which depends on the system (or module) of play that Villarreal use. The drill is a 5v5+2 possession. The pitch is divided into 2 halves, and all the players must be within the same half, except the floaters that will be placed one at each end of the pitch. The rules of provocation are that the drill starts from one of the floaters and the attacking team must play 5 passes before they can switch the play to the other floater. When the ball is switched from one side to the other, all the players must move to the other half of the pitch and repeat the process. The main coaching points of this drill remain in positional game concepts which are specific to the module of play of the team, but the same drill can be used to work on tactical and technical aspects of the game. In our case, we can use this drill to work on the optimum width and height/depth, body shape, distance between lines, oriented control, 1 touch play, receive in between lines, and both offensive and defensive timing, for example. Remember that embedding too many coaching points within the same drill can be counterproductive for our players, as there will be a lot of information going on, so it is always better to focus on one or two coaching points and emphasise and repeat them over and over again.
