“Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Prime Minister tendered his resignation along with the Union Council of Ministers. The President accepted the resignation and requested the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new Government is formed,” The Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a post on X.

The result of the Lok Sabha Election 2024 has been declared with the BJP winning 240 of the 543 seats and the Congress 99, according to the Election Commission of India. As per the final tally that came out early on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to form the government for a third consecutive term with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) getting a majority in the Lok Sabha. The BJP, whose candidates contested in the name of Modi, won 240 seats, falling short of the 272 majority mark.
With support from key allies N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), which won 16 and 12 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, respectively, and other alliance partners, the NDA crossed the halfway mark. NDA partners are set to meet at 4 pm for alliance talks at Modi’s residence today.
