My mom Mrs. Sulochana of Chennai shows you How she makes the best Rasam Powder I have ever tasted. This is her secret recipe that I am sharing for everyone to get a Taste of Iyangar Samayal (cooking). Enjoy!
Ingredients and Steps for Rasam Podi:
MIX ALL THESE TOGETHER COLD and GRIND THEM IN A MIXER OR GRINDER. MOM SAYS DO NOT ROAST THEM!
3 Cup Black Peppercorns (250 g)
1 and 1/2 Cup Jeera (no grams available from Mom)
6 cup Dhania (500 g)
3 cup Toor Dal (500 g) - also known as Tuvar Dal in Hindi or Thuvaram Paruppu in Tamil
20-30 Dry Roasted Curry Leaves
1 Dried Turmeric
3 Cups of Dried Red Chillies (250 g) - remove the head
Mix all the above together in a Mixer or Grinder and grind them somewhat coarse. DO NOT ROAST THEM! DO NOT ADD OIL or SALT OR ANYTHING ELSE!
Just Grind it and enjoy it in your Rasam Making!
