As the eye of Typhoon Krathon passed Kaohsiung on Thursday (October 3), strong gusts of wind dragged objects through empty streets and killed two people.
Waterfront areas were affected and staff at one hotel were forced to repeatedly secure wooden panels, which had been erected as protection against wind and rain, at the entrance.
Krathon made landfall as a much weaker category 1 typhoon around mid-day on Thursday at the major port city of Kaohsiung.
The government, though, still warned people to stay at home given torrential rain, strong winds and storm surges coinciding with high tide. - report from Reuters
