The Supreme Court has rejected all the petitions seeking 100 percent verification of
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) vote with their VVPAT slips.
The apex court also rejected the plea to bring back paper ballots for the
voting process.
The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were introduced in India in 1982 which
enables citizens to cast their votes electronically.
EVMs consist of two Units - a Control Unit and a Balloting Unit.
Many countries like Bhutan, Nepal, and Namibia have used EVM machines made in
India in their elections.
EVM Controversy
The EVMs do not have any frequency receiver or decoder or any external hardware
port for connection to any other non-EVM accessory or device.
But, there are certain strata of political parties and people who challenge the
authenticity of EVMs and there is always an ongoing debate on the same
