The Iraqi air force has attacked insurgent positions in the northern city of Mosul and the surrounding area. A video, posted on the Iraqi Ministry of Defence's YouTube channel, shows rockets being fired targeting buildings from what appears to be a helicopter. The Ministry of Defence said in a statement the air force was providing cover for the northern town of Baiji, which holds the biggest oil refinery in the country, that militants have surrounded.
