Take Back Day is the biannual (twice a year) opportunity for everyone to safely and securely dispose of prescription medication that’s expired or no longer needed. Potentially addictive medications in the home including prescription opioids and stimulants need to be securely stored while they’re being taken, and after the medical need passes or the medication expires, they need to be safely and securely disposed.
At the October 2021 Take Back Day, Tennesseans safely and securely disposed of nearly 17,000 pounds of medications at 112 sites across the state. In the decade that the DEA has organized Take Back Day, Tennesseans have safely and securely disposed of more than 330,000 pounds of medications.
