Thanks for stopping by, this is a 2 minute classroom and today we are talking about Vitamin D.
You’ve probably heard that you should spend more time in the sun to get more vitamin D, but sunlight doesn’t actually give you vitamin D
Instead, UV rays in the sunlight cause the cholesterol in your skin to be converted into Vitamin D. So you actually make vitamin D with the help of the sun, which is pretty cool.
But that’s not the only way to get Vitamin D. You can also get it from many types of fish such as salmon, tuna, and sardines as well as egg yolk. And some foods like milk, cereals, and orange juice don’t naturally contain vitamin D but are often fortified with it, which means that Vitamin D has been added into their ingredients.
You can even take a vitamin D supplement if you are not getting enough from other sources.
This is great news because vitamin D helps you in many ways, including:
Boosting your mood
Bolstering your immune system
Improving brain function
Helping lower blood pressure and risk of heart disease
And Strengthening your teeth and bones by aiding in the absorption of calcium
So whether it's from your food, a supplement, or your body’s process in the sunlight, make sure you get your daily vitamin D.
