Single Russian missile destroys Ukrainian rocket battery
Russian military top brass have released astonishing footage of the destruction of an entire Ukrainian rocket battery with just one missile.
This footage shows the Russian military launching an Iskander-M missile system and destroying an entire battery of Ukrainian Smerch rocket systems in a field.
The Russian MoD said in a statement on May 2: ‘In the course of the ‘special military operation’, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to strike with high-precision missiles at important military infrastructure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
‘The Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system was prepared to destroy an entire battery of Smerch multiple launch rocket systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a high-precision strike.’
The video shows a Russian mobile missile unit deploying a single Iskander-M which rockets through the sky.
Then it cuts to what Russian officials say is drone footage of a strike on a Ukrainian rocket battery position.
Huge flames leap into the sky as the Russian missile apparently hits.
Kremlin officials, however, do not say where the attack happened.
The statement went on: ‘Intelligence officers calculated the positions of the rocket artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
‘In the sky, an unmanned aerial vehicle monitored the target.
‘At a distance of hundreds of kilometres from the enemy, the Iskander-M hit the enemy in the heart.
‘As well as an explosion, there was a sea of fire and a column of smoke. Dozens of destroyed strategic facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already been accounted for by such systems.
‘The crew completed the assigned combat mission of hitting critical enemy targets such as weapons and ammunition warehouses, fuel and lubricant depots, command posts, and bases of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
‘The mobility of this system helps to quickly change its location, which does not allow the enemy to calculate our position in time and strike back.
‘The complex is able to work in various weather conditions and various terrain conditions. The high accuracy of this complex is ensured by the software and the good work of our intelligence operators. Thanks to the technical equipment of this complex, the missile accurately hit the target.’
The Russian MoD said: ‘Iskander is the only operational tactical missile system in the world that uses both ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.
‘It is capable of flying at the lowest possible altitude along a trajectory set by the operator and can manoeuvre around the terrain, which makes it invisible to enemy air defences.
‘Iskander is a high-precision weapons system with a range of up to 500 kilometres. The warhead of an OTRK missile can destroy almost any target: enemy command posts, military columns, air defence systems.
‘The OTRK's arsenal includes both ballistic and cruise missiles, which, on approaching the target, puts out false electronic interference and is practically invulnerable to enemy air defence systems. A cruise missile can go at ultra-low altitudes and go around the terrain, it is impossible to detect it.’
The unnamed head of the operation said: ‘Not a single modern air defence system is capable of repelling our missile attack. We are proud that the Motherland has entrusted this task to us.’
