Spa Valley Railway
Summer Steam Weekend
Sunday 14th July 2024
Running from Tunbridge Wells West to Groombridge and Eridge, the Spa Valley Railway is one of the newer lines in preservation, with the route only closing under British Rail in 1985 and the first preservation section reopening in 1996. The line reopened to Eridge in 2011.
Originally billed as a Summer Steam Gala, delays in the return of two Bulleid Pacifics to the line meant that Sir Keith Park and 257 Squadron were only on static display at Tunbridge Wells, while long term visitor Caledonian Railway 0-6-0 828 and short term visitor from the Great Western Society at the Didcot Railway Centre GWR Large Prairie 4144 ran an intensive one train service through the scenic Kent countryside.
