This is a popular upgrade for the Coleman and other mini bikes that come stock with the small round peg. These offer more area to rest your foot and are spring-loaded.

This particular part was sourced on eBay, but you can find different ones on the typical web outlets. If you'd like something better than "metal-like substance," you can spend a few bucks more. Even as the cheapest ones I could find, I think they are a significant improvement over stock.

$10 (including shipping!) and about ten minutes and you're set.
