STORYLINE:
Around two-thousand people took part in a march in La Paz on Wednesday, calling for the release of three Bolivian soldiers being held in neighbouring Chile.
Demonstrators converged on the Chilean consulate building in the capital and delivered a letter to staff.
According to official reports, the soldiers were detained on 25 January after crossing the border through an unauthorised passage.
They were said to be pursuing car smugglers that had entered Bolivia from Chile at the time.
"We are marching because we are demanding that our Bolivian brothers who are there (in Chile) unjustly in prison (be freed). We are protesting that justice be done and for the immediate release of our brothers, Bolivian soldiers," said Eustaquio Cardenas, President of the "Federation of Peasants."
The demonstrators chanted "Liberty for the soldiers" and "Chilean brothers, we want liberty" as they made their way through the streets holding posters and banners.
Some of them also set off firecrackers.
According to Chilean officials, the soldiers were arrested because they crossed into their territory illegally.
The Bolivian government says the soldiers are "political prisoners" and Bolivian president Evo Morales has complained to the United Nations in New York.
The incident has further strained relations between the two countries.
Land-locked Bolivia has had a long-standing request that Chile provide a corridor of land, to access the Pacific coast.
Negotiations have failed and Morales has threatened to sue Chile before international tribunals.
Bolivia was left landlocked after losing a war with Chile, fought from 1879-1884.
