On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi, a leader of the Congress party, expressed that neither having President Droupadi Murmu inaugurate the new Parliament building nor extending an invitation to her for the ceremony should be considered as an "insult" to the highest constitutional position in the country. The former Congress president further emphasized that the essence of Parliament lies not in egotistical displays but in upholding constitutional principles. These statements were made in response to the decision of 19 opposition parties, including Congress, Left, AAP, and TMC, to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament complex by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The opposition parties argued that a new building holds no significance when the fundamental values of democracy have been undermined within Parliament.
