Four months have passed since the tragic triple train accident in Odisha's Balasore district, and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally commenced the process of disposing of 28 unidentified bodies that remained unclaimed. To ensure the dignified disposal of these bodies, the BMC issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on October 8. Despite diligent efforts, rightful claimants for these bodies could not be found. The cremation is scheduled to take place at the Bharatpur Cemetery in Bhubaneswar, with the presence of a CBI team overseeing the proceedings. The BMC has outlined an SOP, indicating that 2-3 carriers will be provided for the transportation of the bodies from AIIMS to the cremation ground in the Bharatpur area. The entire process will be recorded on video, and it is expected to be completed within two days. The Balasore tragedy, which occurred on June 2, claimed the lives of 290 individuals. The bodies were kept in AIIMS Bhubaneswar since then, with 81 of them being handed over to the family members in the initial phase, and another 53 following DNA tests. However, the remains of 28 others remained unclaimed, and these bodies were stored in a minimum of five deep freezer containers. The accident involved the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Super Fast Express, and a goods train.
