More than 600 lifeguards will be on duty at Cape Town beaches and municipal swimming pools over the summer season. The City of Cape Town says this forms part of its record festive season deployment of over 5000 personnel across the metro. With record numbers of visitors expected to descend on the city's coast, authorities have also appealed to locals and holiday-makers to be responsible, and refrain from risky behaviours including swimming under the influence of alcohol.
