Right now, I am in the incredible Peruvian city of Cusco, about the embark on the most challenging journey of my life: the four-day hike through the soaring Andes mountains to reach the ancient, ruined city of Machu Picchu. However, this is not the first time I have been here or have attempted to do this. In fact, last time I was in Peru, it ended in disaster, during which time I genuinely feared for my safety.
So, 18 months later, an opportunity arose where I could potentially complete the journey I had begun. This time, I would experience the famous four-day hike to Machu Picchu. Since the original trip had already been 3 weeks long, I was only going to do a one-day hike to get there. Now, I would fly into Cusco, prepare for two days, and then undertake the full four-day journey on foot, and reach my final destination before flying home again.
This would be all about getting to Mach Picchu. However, I think I seriously underestimated the incredible challenge of what lay before me during those four days. That is why I am here today: to prepare myself for the most amazing and difficult experience I have ever faced.
