Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan had a moment of joy on Tuesday (September 20) when FIFA President Gianni Infantino gifted him a "unique" soccer ball with his name on it.
Erdogan, who played semi- professionally in his youth, smiled when he saw his name on the ball.
He then headed the ball and told Infantino that he will go to Qatar World Cup later this year.
The World Cup will begin with the opening ceremony on Sunday, November 20, before the host nation Qatar kicks off the tournament against Ecuador.
The competition has been pushed back to later in the year than its typical June-July schedule to avoid the region's punishing summer heat.
The world soccer governing body FIFA said earlier this month that 2.45 million tickets have been sold for the tournament, which ends on Sunday, December 18.
