A vote of no confidence against Mayor Hayk Marutyan and the election of Deputy Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan as the new mayor took place at Wednesday's special session of the Yerevan Council of Elders.
A total of 57 members of the city council voted in the respective secret ballot.
As a result, 44 members voted in favor of electing Sargsyan mayor, 10 others voted against it, and 3 ballots were declared invalid.
SUICIDE

tragic incident took place in Ararat Province of Armenia today.
As reported shamshyan.com, at around 4:50 p.m. police officers received an alarm according to which the dead body of a child was transferred from one of the villages of the province to the local medical center.
Police officers and investigators found out that the deceased was a 17-year-old resident of a village of Ararat Province who had hanged himself with a rope from the ceiling in the basement of the house. The relatives found him, cut the rope and tried to help and transfer him to the hospital, but he died on the way to the hospital.

The situation was tense Thursday morning in Parakar village of Armenia.
Today is the day of the inauguration of the new village mayor, but the thing is that two people at once—those heading the electoral lists of the Country to Live party and the "Davit Minasyan" bloc—consider themselves elected community leader.
As a result of the local elections in Parakar, the Country to Live party won ten seats in the Parakar village council, the "Davit Minasyan" bloc of parties—nine, and Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract Party—two.

President Armen Sarkissian and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia have met Wednesday at the presidential residence.
They reflected on the current programs and priorities of the Armenian government, as well as the external and internal challenges facing the country and the avenues for overcoming them.
COVID-19

As of Thursday morning, 129 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of these cases has reached 344,126 in the country.
Also, 15 more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 7,936 cases.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the world has exceeded 275 million, and the number of deaths - 5.36 million, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Wednesday evening.
The WHO received information about 275,233,892 infected and 5,364,996 deaths. The number of people infected increased by 541,319 per day, deaths - by 5,735.
