Excessive snow is a nuisance for some and a danger for others in different parts of the world, but Rome hasn't seen a real snowfall in 25 years, so we were enchanted. We expected rain, but as the rain slowly turned white and fluffy, grown ups smiled at each other like kids as we marveled at the soft white of our suddenly unfamiliar landscape.
Unfortunately, most kids were at school when the snow began falling and missed most of the fun, but in the parks, the dogs pranced and ran with delight.
The two parks near my house have slowly filled with parrots over the years, and their harsh squawks make it sound like the amazon sometimes, especially in the morning and early hours when the parrots are most active. You can hear them, probably chirping in protest, at the beginning of the film.
The cold did not remain, however, and by afternoon, the snow had all melted. But for a few glorious hours, Rome was a wonderland of white.
