STORYLINE :
Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf met with leading Indonesian officials on Wednesday to discuss a new initiative for peace in the Middle East and a way of ending the factional fighting among Palestinian groups.
At the meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Pakistani leader was also expected to discuss other regional and international issues.
Musharraf recently returned from a tour of Arab countries including Saudi Arabia and Egypt during which the Palestinian issue was discussed.
Before leaving for Malaysia and Indonesia, Musharraf said he would hold talks with leaders of the two Southeast Asian Muslim nations on a "new initiative" for Middle East peace.
Appealing to Hamas and Fatah groups to stop fighting, Musharraf said the factional conflict created obstacles for a solution to the Palestinian issue.
Musharraf did not give any details about the new initiative in comments broadcast by the state-run PTV.
Pakistan, which has no diplomatic ties with Israel, backs calls for a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
