University of Medical Sciences and Health Services of Markazi Province In February 1988, College of Medical Sciences including Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery with academic support of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences was established and started with 60 medical students. In 1991 it was promoted to university level and in 1995 was integrated with the regional health organization and was renamed into University of Medical Science and Health Services of Markazi Province (AUMS), providing health services and medical education to the entire Markazi region. Arak University of Medical Sciences and Health Services has 7 Vice-Chancellor (Health, Treatment, Education, Development and Resource Management, Research and Technology, Student and Culture, Food and Drug Administration), 9 Healthcare system, 10 City Health Centers, 1 Provincial Healthcare Center, 8 colleges (Medicine, Dental Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery (in Arak city), Nursing (in Shazand, Khomein and Saveh city), Paramedics, Rehabilitation and Hygiene). The university now attracts students in two Doctorate-Level courses (General Medicine and Dentistry),12 Bachelor's Degree Programs, 6 Joint Bachelor's Degree Programs and one Associate Degree program. In 2009, Postgraduate Medical courses and Clinical Medical Assistant Courses were introduced and one student in Postgraduate level in Microbiology and 6 students in Clinical Medical Assistant Courses (Internal Medicine and General Surgery) were accepted. After less than a decade in 2014, there was a significant progress with the total number of 400 students in 11 Postgraduate Medical courses, 11 Clinical Medical Assistant Courses, one PhD in basic medical sciences program and one PhD Research Program. Currently the University has 8 faculties of Medical Sciences (Medical, Dental, Paramedical, Rehabilitation, Hygiene, Nursing and Midwifery (in Arak city), Medical Sciences (in Khomein city) and Nursing (in Shazand city).
