History of Sri Sri Sri Mavullamma Ammavari - Sthala Purana
Many stories are circulating about the area where Sri Sri Sri Mavullamma Ammavaru velavaru. But this is the history believed by the people of this region. Shri Mavullamma's mother is Krishna. It is said to have emerged in 1200 AD. About Sri Ammavari temple 1880 History is available only from It seems that Sri Mavullamma appeared in the area of the building built for the storage of Ammavari Garagala in the present Motupalli Vari Street in Bhimavaram town where there is a Neem tree and a Ravichtu tree. It is believed that she was named after the auspicious mangoes because she was a bright mother in an area where mango trees are abundant. Others are of the opinion that all the small villages together named Amma as the village deity, Mauvulla Amma and Mauvullamma.
Elders say that in the days of Vaisakh month of 1880, Shri Marella Machiraju of Bhimavara, Grandhi Appanna was told by Amma in a dream about the area she had seen and ordered to build a temple. As per the order of Sri Amma, they searched and found the stone idol of Sri Mavullamma. They used to worship the idol by placing a Puripaka so that the sun does not touch it. Later, it seems that Machiraju and Appanna built a temple in the area of Sunday Bazaar (previously Five Lantern Pillar). Around 1910, sculptor Tataolu Nagabhushanacharya of Kolana village made a full statue of Sri Amma in the sanctum sanctorum. But Sri Ammavaru Pralama looked fierce. With this, Grandhi Narsanna's son Apparao garu made the idol a form of peace. On both sides of the sanctum sanctorum maidens were placed to grace the temple of Sri Ammavari. From the very beginning, Mente Venkataswamy's ancestors, the descendants of Alluri Bhimaraju's clan, Ammavari Puttintivaru, Grandhi Appanna's ancestors, etc., were given prominence in the Jyeshthamasa fairs. That custom still continues.
