I've heard so many times that the only way to improve the sound of a modern motorcycle is to remove the catalytic convertor and resonator box with a cat delete pipe or full headers.
I wanted to know how true this is. My personal, anecdotal experience does not sit well with that.
Loud bikes are slowly becoming public enemy #1, so more objective measurements will help us to make decisions going forward.
Here I used a dedicated sound meter microphone as well as a smartphone app.
I would have loved to get my hands on an audio spectrum analyzer to properly assess the different tone and frequencies produced by the different pipes.
I performed both of the ACU sound level control tests which are a static test at 500mm and a 2 Metre FIM Max throttle test.
Maybe you can think of a different kind of test?
