The United Nations mission in the country says it's managed to avert a humanitarian catastrophe in the Upper Nile. Around 70,000 people had sought refuge from the ongoing violence in a camp in Aburoc village. But there wasn't enough clean water, food or healthcare services. The UN moved quickly to deploy peacekeepers from Rwanda. According to the UN envoy to South Sudan, David Shearer, the peacekeepers provided a safe environment for humanitarian organisations to provide aid to the displaced persons.
