UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali informed the UN
Security Council on Tuesday (10/10) that he will remove his
special envoy to the former Yugoslavia, Yasushi Akashi. In a
letter to the president of the Security Council, Boutros-Ghali
said Akashi would be returned to headquarters in New York and
replaced by a Ghanaian, Kofi Annan, the current head of the
peacekeeping department at UN headquarters.
