French riot police used tear gas to disperse climate activists who were seeking to block shareholder access to oil major TotalEnergies' annual shareholders meeting. Investors in the oil group are expected to vote on a climate resolution, which demands accelerated cuts to greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, including those released when customers burn the fuel produced by Total. The company's board, however, has opposed the move -- instead urging investors to approve its own internal climate plan focused on modest emissions cuts at its directly-owned facilities.
