The BICEP2 results released in March 2014 would have provided support for inflation theory, the dominant theory describing early universe. BICEP2 was searching for the imprint of gravitational waves in the Cosmic Microwave Background, which, as Brian Greene explains, is one of the most convincing pieces of evidence for the Big Bang.
