The legal categories of values, principles and rights find specific positions in the EU legal order and have evolved along the many revisions of the founding Treaties. This lecture examined the significance of each category in EU law and their mutual relationships, also in the light of established case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The speaker followed an academic approach and any reference to pending cases was strictly avoided.

The event was co-organized with RECONNECT, a four-year multidisciplinary research project on ‘Reconciling Europe with its Citizens through Democracy and the Rule of Law’, aimed at understanding and providing solutions to the recent challenges faced by the European Union.
