The President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe has resigned. For his people, it's hard to overestimate how important this is. He was in power for 37 years, since the country gained independence from Britain. Much of that time has been marked by violence, repression and desperation.

But in the wake of the announcement there was only jubliation - thousands celebrating - car horns, laughter, cheering, people dancing with delight as they finally witnessed the downfall of their dictator.
