The global health pandemic exposed the vulnerability of our human tribe, and the cracks in individualism and apathy. How do we step out of our 'own shoes' and care for one another better? Heather Kelly argues that if more leaders, businesses and communities promoted the practice of empathy—healthier, happier, and more compassionate societies would result. She describes how it became her super power when, as a young child, she watched her father be mistreated and misunderstood following a traumatic brain injury. Practicing empathy is like exercising a dormant muscle, which we all have the capacity to strengthen. Heather explains how it can become anyone's superpower and offers simple ways to get started.
Heather Kelly has been investigating the power of empathy for the past 10 years. This journey led to her work in developing Mind's Workplace Wellbeing Index in the UK, and facilitating youth photography-based education projects in Uganda, the UK and Spain. Her mission is to inspire positive social and environmental consciousness and to help eliminate stigma around mental health, through encouraging the practice of empathy. She is the founder of Aura Wellbeing, a company that provides workplace mental health and wellness training, consulting and coaching services across Europe & North America; and she also covers these topics as a global content specialist.
