My wife recently installed a baby monitor in our chicken coop. I thought she was a nut, but, it's actually a genius idea! Whenever the chickens lay an egg, they perform the "egg song" afterwards. This video shows you an example. When you're wrong, you're wrong!
When we hear the egg song on the baby monitor, we know to go outside and collect the eggs. This is important because the eggs can freeze in the winter (as the coop is in temperatures just below 0C), and a frozen egg is not great for cooking.
As an added bonus, theoretically we should be able to hear whether there are any predators attacking our chickens!
