This is a First Alert photoelectric smoke detector that my cousin did not want anymore, so she let me have it. First Alert is a brand of BRK (which developed the first home battery-operated smoke detector). I'm not going to officially use it, but I decided to do a demonstration of this alarm. Photoelectric alarms like this one use an optical beam to detect smoke. What I find unique about this device is that there is a drawer in the side instead of a back compartment for the battery (9V). I do a quick overview of the alarm and then test it. It still works fine, but since it's already 8 years old, it's not worth installing (since alarms need to be replaced every 10 years).
