I had a request for a product comparison of craft knives aka X-Acto knives, or what I refer to as demon sticks.
I compared six craft knives and here are the results and costs:
Martha Stewart Utility Bone Folder -Joanns.com $14.99 before coupon and works well, light weight, has a bone folder, craft knife, stylus, tweezers and a mystery tool that I could not remove from the bottom of the knife. I liked the feel of it in my hand--it felt sturdy and the way the handle is made, is easy to change from left to right handed. One of my favorites.
X-Acto Knife Set $6.99 full price at Joanns.com before coupons. This is the traditional X-acto knife and works fine, but doesn't have any bells or whistles. The knife handle is metal and has no real grips other than ones near the blade. I don't like the way it feels in my hand and how it feels like it can slip out of my grasp. Not a favorite. It comes with an extra blade.
$1 Ebay generic knife. Blade bends. It's worth $1.
Tim Holtz Tonic Studios $5.59 at Walmart.com. This knife has a "squishy" feel to the hand and I liked the feel of it but did not think the knife was exceptional. It comes with an extra blade though.
Fiskars Teresa Collins Edition-no longer available at Joanns, where I bought it. $7.20 Amazon Prime. Very heavy with metal handle with really sturdy grip, but a very heavy knife in the hand. The blade cover may have broken the tip of my knife and I just bought it in December and have only used it a couple of times. I didn't like the lid and felt it was too heavy compared to the other craft knives.
Prima Marketing Craft Knife $8.69 at Amazon Prime. I really like the feel of this knife and it performed better than the rest of the knives. It has three extra (different shape) blades in the base of the knife. The only drawback is the lid is hard to remove. This is my number one choice, but if you have issues with the lid and it's removal, I'd suggest the Martha Stewart knife as a secondary knife
choice.
Please let me know if you have other tools you would like me to compare.
