[ Ссылка ] – Here Dr. Thomas Chacko of Chacko Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Center discusses how misleading food allergy blood testing can be.
Transcription:
I have been meeting recently with some of my pediatric colleagues and I am realizing that a lot of times people think and patients in particular will ask for certain bloodwork for foods but I do not think people realize how misleading they could be.
There is a 50% to 80% false positive, meaning it could be positive and be nothing. A lot of times patients that will avoid these foods think they are allergic based on a blood test or a scratch test, and that is often not the case. We see that a lot. Maybe daily.
So, if you are avoiding foods are you were told you are food allergic and there is nothing you can do, that is one that you should come and get a second opinion. We will be happy to tell you if there are options.
We have plenty, almost weekly of patients that have come and have been told to avoid these foods, and then we introduce them in our office overtime without issues. Please, if you have been told to avoid foods due to food allergies, please come by and we will be happy to give you another opinion and see if we can make out any interventions to help change.
