Sint Niklaas (Saint Nicholas) Parade. Amsterdam, Netherlands, 16 November 2008. Prins Hendrikkade at Oudezijds Kolk, near Centraal Station. Just after 1400 hours CET (8:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time). The Saint's blackfaced helpers hand out ginger cookies, candy, and toys to the children (and some adults) lining the parade route. Some find the blackfaced helpers to be a racist, anachronistic anomaly. Others just figure it's all part of the good time.
