As South Africa marks ten years after the Marikana tragedy where 34 mine workers died, the Socio-Economic Rights Institute (SERI) says most of the recommendations that came out of the Farlam Commission are yet to be implemented. SERI is a public interest law centre representing 36 families of the miners who died at the hands of the police in August 2012. In May, Sibanye Stillwater which acquired Lonmin in 2019 threatened workers with retrenchments following their demand for R1000 salary increases.
