New Year's Eve in Copacabana is an event that attracts over 2.5 million of people to the beach every year! The fireworks festival starts at midnight, and may last from 15 to 20 minutes. Fireworks are set in boats around the horseshoe-shaped beach, surrounded by cruise ships disputing the best view. Residents from Ipanema and Leblon are seen in the beginning of the video walking their way to the event. You may alternatively try the subway (tickets have to be bought ahead) or use the taxis or buses. Private cars are not allowed to circulate during the day of the event. Choose your favorite spot, and enjoy! We kept the original video for you to experience first-hand the reaction of spectators. The spot we chose was across from Rua Miguel Lemos, where the infamous Club HELP is the biggest reference.
Other than the fireworks festival, there were 4 stages set on the beach playing live music. The different styels and a parade of attracions guaranteed fun for everyone. Parties also happened in Barra (with DJ's playing dance music) and in Botafogo, around the Guanabara Bay.
